My Story
Almost four years ago, during a period of sadness in my life, I reached out and joined Curves and cannot believe the kindness, support and friendships formed through the staff and members.
In May of this year I turned 75 years of age and, as usual, I headed off to Curves for my regular workout. When I opened the door of the club I saw my face, large as life, on the message screen. There was an unusual number of members present and when they started singing "Happy Birthday" I realized my friends at Curves had organized a birthday party for me. First there were tears, hugs and good wishes and knowing that exercise comes before cake, we all hit the circuit. This was an emotional, happy and wonderful day that I will always remember.
A few weeks later the members were in the midst of preparing for the Curves annual fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. This involved raising money and riding the Big Bike, built for thirty, around the race track. Before the race there was a warm-up and I took a bad fall hitting my knee and forehead on the pavement. First aid was administered on site and it was suggested that I sit out the race as my eye was swollen shut and a huge egg forming on my forehead. I was feeling okay and said "forget that - I came out here to ride that big bike with my Power to Amaze team" and I did.
Now for the good part of my story. The next morning I awoke with the very black eye but no stiff joints or sore muscles. I cast my eyes upward and thanked God and Curves and headed off for my workout. After all the second Big Bike race was on that night and I planned on being a part of the "Power to Amaze" team once again - and I did.
For me personally, Curves is not all about losing weight and inches but rather about building self-confidence, support, love, hope and friendship.
Curves members are ALL amazing women.
