My Story
When I first joined my Curves in June 2005, I went on to lose 40 lbs in the first 6 months but by the next 6 months I felt I needed to be challenged more so I left my Curves to join another gym. Suffice to say, that was one of the biggest mistakes I have made. I gained back 35 lbs and stopped going to a gym altogether.
However, I came back to my senses in May 07 when I rejoined Curves and began using Curvesmart when it was introduced to my gym. I got serious in January 09 by beginning the Weight Management program. I learned how to cycle my diet between phases 1, 2 and 3. Writing down everything I ate and even the number of calories burned has helped me stay on track. I have lost 35.5 lbs so far and I feel like I have more energy to do the things I could not before. I actually find myself jogging to get from point A to point B and not just walking.
I have been faithfully working out 3-4 times a week since January. I find the treadmill at home to be my friend now. The way I feel in my clothes is so empowering. I actually like shopping now. So far I have gone from a size 24 down to an 18 and some 16's are fitting. One of my goals is to be able to shop on the other side of the store and not just in the Plus size section.
I always felt that the amount of weight I had to lose was too much to overcome and that I would never reach my weight loss goal but the weight management program has been my life saver. Learning how to eat more healthfully and knowing I can have a treat now and again without "falling off the wagon" is motivating to me. I look forward to Phase 1 because that is when the scale moves the most. I still have a ways to go in my weight loss journey but I see it as a challenge I can meet and not such an overwhelming obstacle. I know eventually I will get there.
My curves coach is always there to listen to my successes as well as my stumbling blocks and helps me deal with them. I am hoping that my weight loss is motivating other members as well as my family and friends and that they know that it is possible if you stay committed to the program.
