My Story
Hi, my name is Kassie Molton from Pontiac, IL. I'm twenty-two years old and totally blind, with only light perception. My mother called our local Curves owner, Susan Greenburg, and asked if they could help me. She said "Yes, of course we can." So she set my appointment for the next day, and the rest is history. I started Curves in late October 2008.
I have been dealing with weight problems since I was twelve years old and have tried special diets and doctor prescribed medications. I had lost weight before, but could not maintain that weight. I attended the free Weight Management class at Curves and learned how to eat healthy foods and maintain portion control. Working out and eating correctly boosted my metabolism, and the inches started falling off. I am so happy!
Since joining Curves, I have lost fourteen inches and twelve pounds and have gone from a size twenty-two to a size sixteen. I also have some other health issues, including a back problem. More vigorous exercises make my back hurt, but Curves is low impact, which makes it a perfect solution.
Curves has enriched my life tremendously since joining. I look forward each day to going and working out there. The ladies are all wonderful people, and they encourage me to keep working toward my goals. I have been able to remember most of their first names, just by the sound of their voices. If I do happen to miss a day, I feel as if my day is not complete. Now that I've lost so much weight, I have a lot more energy and I feel a lot healthier.
I travel to and from Curves using a cab or my neighbor, Liz, brings me so she can workout with me. I referred her to Curves and I became an Elite Member when she joined. I am now at the point where I can go independently to and from the circuit and other rooms, with only my cane and just a little bit of instruction.
In conclusion, I have been going to Curves for the last seven months and absolutely love it. I've lost quite a bit of weight and have more energy as a result. I think everyone is wonderful and I look forward to going. I'm becoming more independent going to and from Curves and inside the building. Curves has been a wonderful, enriching, and enlightening experience for me, and I look forward to many more years there.
I asked Susan to say a few words on my behalf, as she is submitting my story for me.
"We are so proud of Kassie when she enters our doors. She is an inspiration to all our members and staff. When Kassie was trained on the circuit, she listened intently, and did each machine perfectly, as if she had been raised with them. Each of the members watch Kassie as she goes around the circuit, and they are all smiling in amazement as to how well she adapted to her workout. The interaction with the members has helped Kassie become more independent. Kassie's recognition flower on our wall is yellow, because I told her she was bright like the sun, and our ray of 'sunshine' when she is amongst us, because as everyone knows, the sun always shines at Curves." We celebrated the day she received her '100' Workout T-shirt.
Kassie has been accepted at our local college this fall to grow in her knowledge of computers, so she can prepare herself for her future and become independently living on her own. We are proud to have Kassie as our Amazing Curves Member for 2009.
