My Story
I have always been a plus size woman-from elementary school thru middle school thru high school and finally through college and my adult years. I was always active in and outside of school. participating in volleyball, track & field events, and dance groups; but, I was still bigger than everyone else. Finally I got my wake up call in October 2006. I was at work with a horrible headache, vision was blurry, and feeling real dizzy. I went to the doctor; and, they took my blood pressure and weight. My blood pressure was 179/98; and, I weighed 300lbs. At the age of 27, I was diganose with high blood pressure. In the back of my mind, I'm thinking that I am too young to have high blood pressure. At that time I decided to change my life. I started researching into different fitness facilities that would help me lose weight and give me the tools to live a healthier lifestyle. Being a substitute teacher at the time made it difficult to find a place that didn't charge an arm and a leg; but finally my research paid off, I found CURVES. Curves has change my life. The first day I walked into Curves I weighed 291 pounds; as of today I've lost about 50lbs. and over 40 inches of body fat. I went to the doctor about a couple of months ago; and, the doctor reduced my blood pressure medicine from 2 pills a day to 1 pill a day. I've never in my life had so much energy and confidence about myself. I had gain so much confidence in myself where in March 2008 I competed in the Texas Plus America Pageant. On March 14, 2008, I was crowned the 2008 Mrs. Texas Plus America. In my one year reign, I promoted my platform: Positive Role Models for Young Women-Sow a Positive Seed into the Lives of Others with the Expectation of an Excellent Harvest. Today I am still working towards my goal and won't give up until I reach that goal.
