My Story
My name is Angela, and I have been dealing with various health issues since the age of eight. I am currently on Dialysis and on the waiting list for a Kidney Transplant. My days now revolve around trips to the hospital, and a machine that does the work of what a kidney does. This process leaves me so tired sometimes it takes everything I have to walk out of the hospital, and sometimes I have to leave by the means of a wheelchair.
My "normal" lifestyle has been put on hold. I have many medications I take at several diffrent times of the day, I am on a strict diet, and I am on a fluid restriction that only allows me to drink so much a day regardless of how thirsty I may be. It is overwhelming and stressful, dealing with blood pressure issues, dizziness, and lacking the energy to do simple everyday tasks. This doesn't leave me much time at home to do the things that I like to do, especially if my treatments at the hospital do not go well. All of this can make a person not even want to get out of bed.
However, one day while I was watching television, a Curves commercial came on. I had been a Curves member in the past, and I loved the atmosphere and the workout because it always boosted my self-esteem. I had to stop being a member because of my illness, and I was very upset when I left because I loved it so much.
So I stopped into my local Curves, and talked to a woman named Wendy. We had a good talk about the Curves workout, and what I was going through physically. So I gave it my best shot and although I had to go at a slower pace, I had fun and felt great doing the workout again. So on that day I became a Curves member once again. I felt wonderful for the choice I made, and was excited to do something good again for my body and my mind.
Now that I am a Curves member again and working out, it is helping me cope with Kidney Disease both physically and emotionally. It helps me forget the stress in my life, and I feel stronger mentally and physically during and after my workouts.
For me, Curves is a place that I can call a home away from home. It is a place where I am in control, instead of my illness. I have met some wonderful women at Curves, and Wendy had become a special trainer to me, who looks out for me when I workout, and cares about what I deal with.
I am a better person now since rejoining Curves. I would tell any woman to join Curves if they want to change their life for the better. It has changed my life, my health, my world! Thank you Curves, you work miracles!
