My Story
I have tried to eat nutritiously throughout my life, especially since I was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes .
I have had lung surgery because of pneumonia with a right lung abscess. In my 40s, I was finally diagnosed with multiple sclerosis which had been the underlying cause of my neurological symptoms for the previous five years.
Two years later, I had a severe exacerbation and I stopped walking for 2 years. I was in a wheelchair and had developed severe tremors with this flareup. Unbelievably, I resumed walking after being in the wheelchair for 2 years! In 2005, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In 2006, I had a brain aneurysm. I was still getting chemotherapy for the breast cancer.
Despite all of this, I have made quite a recovery. I joined Curves a year after brain surgery and have continued to make health improvements. Physically, this is the best I've been in 14 years. My neurologist says, "Whatever you're doing, keep doing it." This neurologist had told me when I joined Curves that it would be good for my walking. And has it ever!
I must say that this is the best I've felt despite my chronic ailments. I feel that the strength-training program at Curves has truly helped me with my overall well-being, my stamina, and physical capabilities. I can actually run--something I had not done in 14 years!
Curves has an amazing program for improving health conditions. Despite whatever conditions a woman has, Curves can help her maintain or improve them. I am so happy that I joined Curves. With Curves being a regular, consistent part of my life, I have been able to be a caregiver to my husband who has some recent health issues and get him to his doctors' appointments. It's nice to be on the other end of care. Being able to be there for my husband is a new role for both of us. He has had to care for me in the past. Thanks to Curves, now I get to care for him.
