My Story
My name is Hilda Wilken. I am 67 years old, and iron peoples clothing for a living, here in North Platte, Nebraska. I had open-heart surgery in October 2007 to have a valve replaced. This was my second heart surgery.
In November of 2008 the most wonderful thing happened to me. My daughter, who is a beautician, called me and asked if I would like a free months membership at Curves. She said one of her clients is a member of Curves and could give me a free pass for that month. I took the free month and loved it. I decided I would get all I could out of the free month because I knew I could not afford a membership after that month.
I did not know my Pastors wife who is also my friend decided to help with getting me a membership. She got my client list for ironing, without my knowing, and called every person (even though she did not know them). She asked if they gave me a Christmas gift, and if so, would they like to give so I would be able to go to Curves for a year. She collected enough money to pay for the full year and a little more.
One morning, right before my free month was up, my daughter totally surprised me by stopping in at Curves. She said that her and my other three children wanted to pay for my membership fee. Right away my Pastors wife also gave me an envelope with the money she had collected from my clients. I was so surprised I could hardly stand, and all I could do was cry and say thank you. I could not believe it! Yet they both said it was true and that my clients love me and appreciate me. I still could hardly believe it.
Barb, the owner of the Curves here in North Platte, reminded me that she had said, if I was supposed to come to Curves the Lord would work it out, and He did!
Since then, December 2008 until now June 2009, I have lost 23 pounds and over 19 inches. I go to Curves everyday they are open at 6am. Since I began at Curves I have been able to get off four different medications, and I feel wonderful! What a blessing it would be to win the $1000.00 and know, I could afford another year or two at Curves.
