My Story
I have always been a faily active person and didn't have a weight problem until my hip began to cause me pain at 28 years old. I slowly found an extra 30 pounds of jiggly fat had invaded my body but my brain refused to register the change. If I stayed out of pictures I could deny forever. At 5'8" people just called my big-boned. I began my serious quest for fitness at another gym closer to my home in 2004. I felt better but just couldn't get rid of the excess 30 pounds my body had picked up over the years. I was in need of a hip replacement and found the circuit workout kept me mobile but the extra weight put extra strain on my hip. My doctor told me one pound on your body is like 10 pounds on your joints so I was bashing my hip with 300 pounds of strain with every step! I found out about the Curves 6 week challenge when I visited a club in Flin Flon and decided to try the eating plan on my own while doing the circuit workout in my gym. I had never dieted before and had nothing to lose but much knowledge to gain. The results were amazing and I loved the change on the scale each week. I was hoping the weight loss of 30 pounds would lessen the need for hip surgery but instead found myself on the fast road to recovery after my hip replacement three years ago. I was fit and sailed through the six weeks of recovery with very few setbacks. I joined my Curves last fall after my gym closed and love coming in with a positive attitude each day. It is wonderful to see the changes other people are making and my favorite part is celebrating their successes. I was encouraged by my club to enter this contest even though I see myself as only one of hundreds of amazing members. We are all winners as we strive for better health at Curves.
