My Story
I became a member of Curves in October, 2006, five months after having successful brain surgery to remove a benign brain tumor the size of an orange. Before and after the surgery I was given heavy doses of steroids to shrink the tumor and to keep my brain from swelling. Unfortunately, the steroids did not shrink the rest of my body, and caused me to gain quite a bit of weight. They also increased my blood sugar to the point of being diagnosed as pre-diabetic. My cholesterol levels were high, and I was also diagnosed by a bone scan as having osteopenia. After several months of recovering from my surgery I decided I needed to start working to improve my overall health. I saw an ad in the newspaper about Curves, and decided to give it a try. For the first three months I only lost a few pounds and several inches. In January of 2007, I signed up for the Curves weight management program, to learn how to eat healthy. Along with regular workouts, the program really worked! The pounds and inches really started to fall off! I lost 25.25 inches, 21 pounds, and 2.5% body fat. The staff at Curves was very supportive and encouraging. I had tried other diets and exercise programs before, without long term success. But with the Curves healthy eating plan, and regular workouts, I have boosted my energy level and have maintained my current weight and measurements for over two years. My doctor was very impressed with my results. My blood sugar is under control, my cholesterol levels have improved, and my last bone scan showed no new bone loss! My energy level has sky-rocketed! I have finally found a healthy program that fits my busy lifestyle. Thank you Curves!
