My Story
Hi I am Carrie. I'm here to tell you my life story in hopes that it can help someone out there who doesn't believe there is any hope left. I have been over weight all of my life and not just a few pounds either. I have spent the last 40 years being the biggest person in the room. I have always had a "big" personality which is one of the things I'm sure kept me going. I've been made fun of all my life and just had to pretty much deal with it. Thank God for people who can actually see past the fat and be my friend. I played sports all my life and even with being big I was still very good at what I did. But when it came to hitting the ball in softball or serving a volleyball, I was the one they relied on to make that happen.
After high school, the sports stopped for me and I began working full- time. My first job was Wendy's. What do you know FOOD! Well, I never did any kind of exercise except for my jaw moving up and down eating.
In 2003, my sister and mom joined the curves near my mom's house. I thought hey that sounds kind of fun but I don't think I will stick to it having to drive to something. I found out that there was a location right by my house and now I had no excuse. I went and joined by myself. At the time, my husband and I decided to try our 100th diet...Atkins. When I started curves, I barely fit in the machines so I was moving slow but I was bound and determined to make this happen. I went for a year doing curves three days a week and Atkins. I lost 80 pounds. I was feeling good had a long way to go but things were great.
I then had about 7 people die within 2 months and I went back to my old ways. Before you know it I was back up 110 pounds. I stopped going to Curves because I couldn't fit in the machines AGAIN! I ran into Connie (a lady that works at my location) at Walmart and I was as big as the aisle (I felt) and I told her "Oh I will be back" Then I would think all day God what have I done.
I did continue to pay for Curves for 2 years after that but I never went. I was in fear that all hope would be gone and I really did not want to give up.
My husband and I decided to try Slim 4 Life. It did not require exercise and I was happy about that. Although, I knew one day I would need to go back to Curves. I talked with the owner of the Curves of the location I was going to and told them I wanted to try this new plan and to put me on hold. Most importantly that I would be back.
One year later, I was down around 175 pounds and felt like I could start doing Curves again. I walked in and Danyea, the one who put me on hold, broke down crying for me. It was awesome and she knew I had found my way back and was so excited. Now Connie, on the other hand the one I saw in Walmart ,was a different story. My mom and I walked in and her exact words were "Hello Ladies, have you been to Curves before?"
I said "Well half a size ago I was!" She was like wait a minute and she totally freaked out because she did not even know who I was. It was a great reaction. I have been staying on plan and I am now 1.5 pounds from goal and I have lost 214 pounds. I love Curves for not only helping me be in shape and lose my inches but for the friends who I have met and helped me to talk out why I eat and have encouraged me to keep going. Curves is also one consistent in my life that does not revolve around food which has been a positive life alternating change for me and my family.
