My Story
14 years ago, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I had been active all my life and had no previous health problems. After a few months of chemo and radiation, my oncologist gave me the good news that I was in remission. All went well for a few years and then I began having digestive problems. The stress of the cancer and treatment had caused my asymptomatic celiac disease to become full-blown. Once I got the gluten free diet under control my symptoms eased but I began having severe joint and muscle pain. My fitness routine no longer kept the aches and pains at bay, so I joined my local Curves gym. Within a few short weeks the pain was gone. If I miss a day or two of either walking 2 miles or working out at Curves, the aches return. That is all the motivation I need to be a faithful Curves member! Last year, my lymphoma returned and after surgery and a forced 8 week injunction against anything more than walking, the aches and pains were back. So when the doctors OK'd a return to exercise, I RAN to my Curves facility and again within a couple of days was feeling much better again. Is it the exercise releasing endorphins that makes me feel better? Who knows! But I will be a Curves member for life and the best quality of life I can have is assured by my daily workouts. My weight fluctuates between 116 to 120 lbs thanks to my lifelong joy in exercising and good portion control when eating.
