CURVES MEMBER SAILS THE HIGH SEAS
Long-time Curves member Judi Deatherage recently spoke on the largest cruise ship currently on the ocean, Royal Caribbeans Freedom of the Seas, on the subject of finance. Judi has been a Curves member since October 2004, currently at Villa Hills, Kentucky. While on the Caribbean cruise, she sported her Amazing Woman Curves shirt and met several other women wearing Curves T-shirts.
Judi is a former high school teacher who has been on a mission for the last decade to educate teens and young adults about finance. Since her book entitled Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? was published, she has been speaking not only to teens at high schools and colleges, but also to adult groups such as Rotary Clubs, Kiwanis, Senior Citizens and other adult organizations/businesses"and on a cruise ship! All age groups have responded well to her message. Judi makes sure her audiences know that building wealth is important for what you can do with money"giving back to your community, using your money, your time and your talents; not just building wealth for the sake of having money.
Judi also makes sure her audience understands how blessed we are to live in the United States and always points out that 40 percent of the world lives on $2.00 a day or less. Americans are all wealthy in comparison.
When her book came out in 2007, Judi says her friends at Curves encouraged her throughout the entire process of publication. She threw a party/book signing at her house to show her appreciation to her supporters at Curves, and acknowledges Curves as her choice to stay fit and healthy. Her message encourages young adults and her fellow Curves members to stay physically and fiscally fit throughout their lives.
I am amazed at the lack of information about basic finance, even at the adult level. We have just never been educated about money, and much of the problem in our economy is a result of this deficiency, Judi says.
