My Story
A month and 10 days after I joined Curves I was severely injured in a skiing accident. A snowboarder slammed me from behind and wiped out both knees. Six months later I'm still going to physical therapy 3hrs./day 3 days a week and walking lots better, but it's slow. Also 3 days a week, I go to Curves. At the start, all the doctor's and therapists said they could give me a medical excuse when I mentioned Curves. I am normally such an active person and the thought of quitting altogether killed me. I wasn't expecting any results per say, I knew I would need something to do to keep moving a little bit and keep me from getting too out of shape. I probably also needed the interaction and support of the great ladies at Curves to help me through this frustrating time. So I continued to attend, working on the upper body machines, where I'm sitting since I can't stand very long, and moving as much as I can on the recovery stations. I had mentioned to doctors and therapists both that I wondered if part of the reason I wasn't injured worse was my month plus on the leg extension/leg curl machine among others. I had always been afraid of and didn't know what I was doing with weight training, but always heard how important it was especially when you get older for bone strengthening. The fact that I didn't actually break anything just have bone bruises, I'm hoping means no osteoporosis in my future, and Curves will help me maintain that. Another thing I remember hearing when I was young was how important it is to stretch, but I didn't pay attention. With this accident one of the therapies has been ASTYM where they scrape your skin with and edge to break up scar tissue in your muscles. It wasn't just around my knee, they scraped from my hip to the tips of my toes. Yes it was exrremely painful, scar tissue inhibits muscle function. How do you help avoid this, sretching! Another plus for curves. And as an added note, on the days I was skiing, I did my Curves stretches in the morning and again at night and didn't have a bit of the leg burn or soreness I used to experience. But now for the most amazing part, at my June weigh and measure I lost 9 pounds, 6.24 pounds of body fat, 7.5 inches!!!! I can't wait to do Curves for real. So I share my message of success with everyone and have had 3 new members join during my short membership. God willing, I should earn my 100 workouts shirt by the end of July and I keep working on new members.
