My Story
My Curves story begins like many other people with the start of a new year and an idea to lose weight. I knew that I had gained a lot of weight for a couple of different reasons. I think it really hit home for me when I pulled the attic stairs down in my house and there on the step was a warning "maximum weight 250 pounds". I thought to myself, this is not good; that is practically what I weigh; I have to change things. I am a firm believer that you are the one and only person that has the ability to change things in your life that you are not happy with.
A friend and I knew there was a Curves close by; ironically, behind the ice cream shoppe. We went in, both with the attitude that we were only going to listen and see what they had to offer, not join that night. She worked for a national athletic corporation and was skeptical that the resistance machines worked. I contemplated it and called back the next week. I am so glad that I made that decision!
I joined Curves in March 2005 with a starting weight of 244 pounds, a size 16-18. The first month when I was weighed and measured I lost seven pounds " I was ecstatic! The next month was three and the following month was another seven. I was beginning to see a change in myself as well as how my clothes fit and others were starting to notice as well. The comments from folks around me were encouraging.
I have continued with the Curves program, faithfully attending three times a week, for a little over four years now. I have not joined any type of eating program during this time. I currently weigh 152 pounds and wear a size 6-8.
I encourage anyone that wants to change her life to join this program. The weight loss was gradual and it did not happen overnight but it happened and that is the most important thing. Dont get discouraged if you dont get the results you feel like you should at first. Your body needs time to adjust and realize that you are doing something good for it! Dont give up - be inspired!
