My Story
I signed in Curves of Jones Rd. because it was close to home and would be easy not to skip a workout. I liked what was explained about the system designed to give you back the effort you put into it, so a strong workout would yield strong results. I was fit then but not strong at all at 48 years old. Two months after, before my 49th birthday I decided to go after a dream and signed into SEAL Adventure Challenge (SAC),

a 24hr.VERY challenging program both physically and mentally, stressing lessons in team work and individual excellence open to civilians -men and women over 17 years old- as well as for young men who will eventually sign in for BUDs training in order to become Navy SEALs. Why? I am a college Art Appreciation professor facing on daily basis students who will not put any effort in pushing their very comfortable limits. If something was to change, it had to start by myself. I had to set the example on the issue of pushing limits: women cannot pursue careers in SOF and the furthest thing imaginable from an Art Historian with a PhD is to go for such a goal even for 24 hrs. I had then 5 months ahead to prepare myself, at least to get strong enough to resist. I received enthusiastic support from the Curves personnel and friends. A special exercise workout routine was designed for me, as I was running to my three days a week workout on service boots from my house and back when finished. I was suggested to use the Advocare products who improved my level of performance and combined all that with calisthenics and strenuous pool drills -underwater swimming, drown proofing but mostly being able to swim for long periods of time with the hands in the back or out of the water, carrying heavy objects. Once a week from January to April I could be found on Friday mornings in the Curves of Bosque Blvd. of Waco TX, whose personnel was also very supportive.
Now I know SAC level was much higher and my performance was not even average when compared to my 18 year old classmates on the way to BUDs, but thanks to Curves I went there strong enough to perform to the best of my capacity and achieve the goal that was to survive the 24hr. challenge and had the honor to graduate with the 2009 class of SAC. The pic was taken by my husband after the graduation of SAC.
Curves developed in me all the physical strength I took to SAC and gave me confidence of attempting pool drills that require a lot of resilience. Curves system followed me into one of the most strenuous trainings imaginable so I brought a copy of my Certificate of Achievement of SAC to Curves of Jones Rd.
