My Story
Curves is my start of the Day
I'm Shirle Rae Money. I'm 83 years old. My daughter, Linda got me interested in Curves after my mother passed away. It was funny because when she mentioned that I should join, I told her I got enough exercise keeping up with her dad, and her answer was, "But Mom, its not structured." That was about 10 years ago. She was right. Its wonderful to go through the 30 minute workout and get things going for the day. Thats just part of the story though, the added bonus is the lovely ladies that I have met. They truly are special to me.
Since I've started I've gotten off sugar and feel great. We had a contest to stay off sugar for a whole month. I've been struggling with arthritis so I entered the contest. What a great feeling I have to see results at Curves. This morning, I didn't sleep too well the night before, so I was trying to tell myself I don't need to come in but I got up and here I am and its made a big difference in the day.
On October 21, 1926 in Beaver, Utah, my mother was struggling to bring me into this world. It had been such a long ordeal that my father, who had been with her all night, had nodded off to sleep in a chair by her bed. Then, while he was sleeping, the doctor decided I was ready and as I came into the world, he could not detect life, so he just set me on my fathers lap & proceded to work with my mother. All of a sudden, I started to roll off dad's lap and began to cry.
My father worked for Telluride Powder Company at that time & shortly after I was born, he had an accident while doing some line repairs & he lost his right arm. He was a survivor though & continued working at the station 8 miles from town.
There were only three families where we lived & the parents took turns driving us to school. My brother & I were encouraged to get involved in music. We played the trombone & I played the clarinet. We had some great experiences with our school band.
When I was 14, Dad lost his job & my cousin found him work in California. Then our family moved to South Gate, Cal. It was there that I finished my high school & attended College.
Mother was determined that I should have an education, so she went to work at Owens Illinois Glass Co. At that time she worked with a lady named Carol. Carol mentioned that her grandparents lived in Spanish Fork. As their relationship grew, she found out that my brother was a pilot in the Navy Air Force & she was a Wave in the Navy. So they met, dated, & married. This was shortly after the war ended & she told me she had a cousin who was in the Navy & was lonely. She said she would like to set us up for a date to go dancing. That was the start.
After we married in 1947, we moved to Spanish Fork & about one year later, we moved to Palmyra.
In March, 1949, we were blessed with our first child, a girl whom we named Jana Rae. The following August, 1950, we were blessed with another girl, Linda. The next year 1951, Dec. 8, we were blessed with a son, Bryan. It was not meant that we should keep our Jana Rae. She battled with leukemia for a year & a half & died in March 1954. In Dec. for 1954 we again blessed with a daughter, Diana. Then, in May of 1957, we were blessed with our son, Kurt. In 1959 we had another tragedy happen when our son Bryon lost his leg in a farm accident.
The years have moved along, the children have married, had their families. Linda had 4 children. Four are married & they have 7 grandchildren.
Bryan had 2 children, & they are married & 5 childchildren.
Diana has 2 children, just one is married & no grandchildren.
Kurt had 2 children, & they are married & he has 4 grandchildren.
Curves has truly kept me young and active. It has allowed me to truly enjoy my children & grandchildren & to keep up with my husbands honey do projects.
I love life and Curves.
