My Story
I am 28 year old and I have been going to Curves since 2007. I have been over weight pretty much my whole life. I have been teased about it throughout my whole elementary and High School years. I didn't play in any sports at school and let's just say that Gym was my worst subject and I couldn't wait until you didn't have to take it anymore. The summer of 2000 right before I went to college I went on Atkins; I went from a size 16 to a size 9-10 (139 lbs). I started going to the gym and I would spend so much time there; 45 mins cardio and another 1 hour on weights. Needless to say, I started eating Carbs again because I thought that I deserved to eat whatever I wanted. I started slowly gaining the weight back. In Jan 2003, I was up to 160 lbs when I started a call center job working shift work. I had different days off and start times. I stopped working out and starting eating fast food and junk. By Dec 2006, I was 269 lbs (size 24), I didn't want to go out or see anyone. I couldnt even go to Wonderland because I didnt fit on the rides. My turning point occurred after looking at Xmas photos that winter. I couldnt recognize myself and kept saying thats not me! Over the winter I lost 3 family members to heart problems, and other aunts and uncles were showing signs of health problems. In early summer my grandpa died and I had been having health issues. It's hard when youre over weight because doctors are so fast to blame everything on your weight. I knew I had to start doing something. So, I started dieting on a 1200 calorie diet and after I lost about 10-15 lbs I started feeling a bit better about myself so I joined Curves. I was a little nervous at first. I thought that everyone would be looking at me, plus I was a little clumsy on the machines. Everyone was really nice, I enjoyed listening to people talk and joke while I worked out. I would go to curves about 2 times a week, which was way better than what I was doing before! I was really happy when I started seeing results; I loved how Curves would put your results in a chart and measure you once a month. The charts and the fact that it only takes 30 mins is what kept me going to Curves. The other great thing was a few of my family, friends and co-workers were inspired to lose weight since they were seeing my results. I would give my old clothes that I grow out of to my friend and she kept up with my weight loss. It was good motivation for the both of us! I am currently 185 lbs and a size 12.
