My Story
I am 75 years old and have been struggling with Parkinsons for over 25 years. I used to square dance and round dance for entertainment and exercise until my feet started sticking to the floor and I would start to fall. I still walk for exercise but I realized that I had to use all of my muscles or loose them.
I researched the women's fitness centers around Winston-Salem and was told that they were not for me. Finally one of the fitness centers said that I should try CURVES. The lady gave me the address, a free pass and to tell the lady in charge that she sent me.
I tried the machines at CURVES and found that I could use them to some degdree. The trainer said that she would set apart one hour twice a week and devote it exclusively for me. She helped me get on and off the machines and showed me how to use them. The arrangement seemed ideal for me so I signed up. I am very glad now that I did.
Even though it is a continuous struggle just to make the machines move, I keep at it. My muscles are starting to fill out. I seem to have more strength and everyone greets me as though I am part of the group. I will contiue my strength training as long as I am able.
I enjoy getting out of the house and doing something other than just sit around and watch TV.
