My Story
At the encouragement of the MOST Amazing Women, my fellow club members, I humbly write my story.
Almost 6 years, 800 workouts ago, I joined Curves Huntington Beach South. I needed a change, 200 lbs, size 20 and going up
My doctor asked me what I was going to do about my weight, I said the same thing I always had done, watch it! Unfortunately that wasnt the answer she was looking for.
Checking my blood pressure she said it was slightly elevated and wanted to put me on something, a water pill. As many of you know that means peeing what seems like every five minutes, so I took myself off.
Time had gone by and I was in with my mom at her doctors appointment. Having the same doctor, she wanted to check my blood pressure again. This time is was more than slighted elevated 210/180, a stroke waiting to happen. This time she prescribed two medications.
I am the owner of my own business, single and full time caregiver to my mom who I was living with at the time. I also have 3 dogs that would get walked everyday weather or not I wanted to walk them. I also added another dog to the mix.
Life rolls on and now we are in 2007, this was the most eventful year of my life. I ended up having a broken heart, getting braces at the age of 45. My mom ends up having two surgerys and some where in the mist of the second surgery has a stroke and 10 days later I have to take her off the breathing tube and within 7 minutes she is gone. The following year I lost two dogs.
I know that one of the reasons I got through this time is because I had been working out at Curves at least 3 days a week. Towards the end of taking care of my mom, I worked out everyday. I needed to have time just for me, uninterrupted, for my sanity.
I also had the support of my fellow curve members, who were and still are so amazing. Within 6 months I lost 30 inches. If I hadnt been at Curves all this time, I am sure it would of gone the other way.
Today, I am in a size 8 and when work allows it I get in my 3 workouts or more a week. I still run my business and am down to 2 dogs, which of course get walked, everyday. As I run into people who knew me before that have no idea it is me, until they hear my voice, and then still cant believe how I look.
The strangest thing for me is shopping for clothes; I still head to the larger section and then have to remind myself, that wont do. Now, I can wear my sister and nieces stuff, which is amazing in its self.
