My Story
My story is just like yours. I have been overweight my entire life and have tried every starvation diet, over-the-counter diet pill, and exercise routine out there all with the same results. I would lose the weight but find it back on me and then some. Even when I joined Curves in October of 2003 and pledged a healthier lifestyle I developed the I can eat whatever I want since I worked out today attitude. I even gained about 20 pounds at some point during my first years of membership. Then I moved to a different part of town and started working out at the Bellevue location. There I attended my first Six Week Solutions class and things started sinking in. Since then I have learned that every body is different and a higher protein lifestyle is a better option for me.
I workout 3 to 5 times per week with CurvesSmart and have discovered the benefits of the Weight Management program. It amazes me that I can eat 2000 calories in a day and still lose weight, especially since Ive always believed the common myth that you have to eat less to weigh less. I astonish my friends with this thought. They couldnt believe how easy it was for me to make the Weight Management Program more of a lifestyle than a diet helping me lose close to 75 pounds.
My company hands out water to racers during the Country Music Marathon held each year here in Nashville. I used to volunteer to hand out water until about three years ago when the last person to walk through was a girl. She wasnt your typical racer. She looked out of shape and carrying extra weight, like me. As she walked through I kept thinking that if she could walk a marathon I could at least walk the half marathon. I dont know if she ever finished, but the following year (April 2008) I walked my first half marathon in 3:52:46. I then used the CurvesSmart program as part of my training routine and set a goal of shaving off five minutes in the 2009 event. I completed my second half marathon this past April, but fell just a little less than half way through the race. With several medic stops for new bandages and a continually bleeding hand I crossed that finish line in less than 4 minutes longer than last year (3:56:30). I was ecstatic that I finished. All of my hard work, walks, and CurvesSmart workouts kept me motivated the entire way. I cant wait to start training for next year and may even walk another event this coming November.
I feel like a completely different person than the one who walked through the doors in 2003. People ask me what my diet secret is and I reply Hard work, determination, and working out at Curves! I am happy, blessed, confident, and strong and that is my definition of beautiful. My Curves truly amaze me!
