My Story
I have battled my weight since I can remember being put on a diet at age 8. My life has been a yo-yo of weight loss and gain. But when I began teaching 11 years ago, my weight skyrocketed due to the stress and inactivity and unhealthy diet. Since the age of 30, I have had several accidents, including two bad knee injuries, that have made losing weight that much more difficult. Because of my weak knees, I tended to fall quite a bit and recovery time would be months and done without a brace, because I couldn't find a brace to go around my knees. I was hypoglycemic on the way to full blown diabetes. Three years prior to joining Curves, I changed how I looked at food and addressed my health through holistic nutrition. When I saw that my nutrition program was keeping my weight stable, I knew I just needed to add in some exercise. At the age of 36, I joined Curves at 426 pounds with a BMI of 60. After a few more falls and medical holds, I started going to my Curves 4-5 days a week as of December 2008. I also travel quite a bit for my job and when I saw that the hotel gyms were just not giving me the same intense workout, I sought out a Curves near my hotels. I currently weigh 226 pounds, my BMI is now at 32, the hypoglycemia is gone and I have gone down from size 34 pants to a size 16/18 and a size 30 top to size 12. I make my workout so intense that I burn between 800 and 1000 calories each time! I am stronger and more toned than I ever was at the age of 19, when I weighed 190 pounds. My knees are stronger than ever and I haven't fallen in 11 months. I am just 1 size from my goal, and I know I am going to make it. People tell me I do not look the same...but I tell them that the best thing is I do not FEEL the same! It is as if the real me has been hiding just under the surface all this time and is finally FREE. I may be 39, but I feel 26 or 27! And I love it!
