My Story: One sunny afternoon, in March of 2004, I was sitting on the Carolina Crystal Coast beach with family and friends. It was time to head back to the beach house to eat dinner. I could not wait to see what we were having. Then, as I rolled myself out of the low seated beach chair onto my knees and hands, like a dog, because I could no longer get up any other way; I realized I was in trouble. I had to ask for assistance from my older brother to help stand up. It was like all of a sudden, I realized that I am 46 years young and needed assistance just to do the everyday things, like getting out of a chair. Still, in complete denial, I thought, like, what's up with that? I pride myself on being a survivor and knowing I'm a part of God's purpose. I've survived so many of life trials and tribulations, like being laid-off, like renal cell cancer, like a divorce, like a terrible car accident, and even like a single parent. Heck, I could write a book about my ability to survive life circumstances, and now I cannot get out of a chair without assistance? But, the reality was that I was as large as I had ever been, and I was embarrassed because I was loosing my independence. I could not even walk a short distance without gasping for air. Physically, I was becoming a massive outward appearance of someone that I could not even recognize in the mirror. I rarely left my home and was becoming a true couch potato. Then, later that same Month, I was watching T.V. and a Curves commercial was advertised. I decided to give Curves a call, I thought, still in denial, what did I have to loose? That phone call was the beginning of what changed my journey thru life. I have met many wonderful and lovely individuals at the Curves, in Cary, North Carolina. We have laughed together, hugged each other and even cried a little. That 30 minutes spent approximately 3 times a week has help me see what choices I had made and changes that I could make. At the Cary Curves the hydraulic machines that we use have definitely defined my arms and has given me a more curvaceous appearance. The Cary Curves staff makes each individual a major priority, they rally around you, and the staff will not allow you to give up. The Cary Curves staff helps you make healthy changes in your life and loose weight. I cannot express how much gratitude I have for the on-going support of the Cary Curves staff and members. Today, I still have to deal with life's circumstances on my journey, but now I can get out of that beach chair from the squat position without asking for any assistance. I can also walk 4 miles without gasping for air. But, most important, my journey through life is a lot more enjoyable because of the true friends I have made at the Curves in Cary, North Carolina.
